Privacy Policy
Last updated: 24 September 2026
A note for parents and guardians. Curiously is a daily science-learning app
made for children. We collect as little information as possible, we never sell your child's data,
and we do not show third-party or behavioural advertising. This page explains what we collect,
why, and the choices you have. If anything is unclear, email us (see "Contact us" at the end).
1. Who we are
Curiously ("we", "us", "our") is a mobile learning app operated by Ferbotz. This Privacy
Policy applies to the Curiously mobile app and the services provided through it (together, the
"Service").
2. Our approach to children's privacy
Curiously is intended for children, so we design the Service to be safe and
privacy-protective. We aim to comply with the children's-privacy laws that apply to us, which may
include the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the EU/UK GDPR (including its
protections for children), and Google Play's Families policies. In particular:
- We collect only the information needed to run the Service.
- A child does not need to create an account or give any personal details to read the daily
science content or take its quiz.
- We do not show behavioural advertising and do not use children's data for advertising.
- We do not knowingly collect more personal information from a child than is reasonably
necessary.
- Parents and guardians can review or request deletion of their child's information (see
"Your choices and parental rights").
3. Information we collect
a. When used without signing in (anonymous)
- A device identifier. When the app is first opened it creates a random ID
stored on the device (sent to us as an
X-Device-Id). It lets us remember
reading progress, the chosen age range, and daily-usage limits without asking for any
personal details. It is not a phone number or a government identifier. If you email us
through "Contact support" in the app, the email includes this ID, so we can find that
device's data when you ask.
- Learning activity. Which concepts have been recommended and read, the
selected age range (8-10, 11-12 or 13-15), and the dates on which concepts were finished
(used to show a reading streak).
- Quiz answers. Each concept ends with a short multiple-choice quiz. We keep
the option chosen for each question, the score, whether the quiz was passed, how many times
it has been tried, and when. Only the latest quiz attempt for each concept is kept; each new
attempt replaces the one before.
- Question counts. How many questions have been asked on the device each day
and when its free trial started, so we can apply the free-trial limits.
b. If you choose to sign in with Google (optional)
- Your Google account's name, email address, Google account ID, and the link to your
profile photo, so progress can be saved to an account and restored on another
device. Signing in is optional and the app works without it; it is needed only to buy a
subscription.
- When you sign in, the reading progress, age range, quiz answers and questions already made
on that device are moved to your account.
c. Questions and "ask a doubt" content
- The text of questions asked in the app, and the answers given.
- Optionally, a photo or a short voice recording if the
child chooses to attach one to a question. These are used to understand and answer the
question (see "How answers are generated") and may be stored so the conversation can be
shown again in history.
d. Subscriptions
- If a premium subscription is purchased, our payments partner (RevenueCat, together with the
app store) tells us the subscription status and expiry date. The actual
payment details (card numbers and similar) are handled by the app store and RevenueCat -
we never receive or store them.
e. Basic technical logs
- Our servers keep standard logs of each request - such as which feature was requested, the
time, the result, and the network (IP) address and browser or device type it came from - to
operate and secure the Service. They are designed not to record the content of what is sent,
such as the text of questions.
We do not intentionally collect precise location, contacts, or advertising
identifiers.
4. How answers are generated (AI)
When a question is asked, the question text - and any attached photo or voice recording - is
sent to Google's Gemini AI service so it can generate an age-appropriate
explanation, together with the earlier questions and answers in the same conversation. When the
question is about a concept the child is reading, the text of that concept is sent with it so the
answer stays on topic. Google processes this content to return an answer.
Please avoid including personal information in questions or photos. AI answers are for learning
and may occasionally be incomplete or inaccurate (see our Terms & Conditions).
5. How we use information
- Show the daily concept and let children read the library.
- Check quiz answers, mark a concept as read when more than half are right, and show a
reading streak.
- Answer questions and "doubts", grounded in the concept being read.
- Remember progress and the chosen age range, and restore them if signed in.
- Apply the free-trial limits and manage subscriptions.
- Keep the Service safe, fix problems, and improve it.
6. Service providers we share with
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for advertising. We share limited
information with trusted providers only so they can perform services for us:
- Google (Gemini AI) - to generate answers from questions, photos, and
audio.
- Amazon Web Services - hosts our servers and database, and stores the images
used in the science concepts.
- Google Cloud - stores photos and voice recordings attached to questions,
where these are kept.
- RevenueCat and the app stores (Google Play / Apple) - to manage
subscriptions and process payments.
- Google Sign-In - only if you choose to sign in.
These providers may use the information only to provide their services to us. We may also
disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety and rights of users.
7. Data retention and deletion
We keep information only while it is needed to provide the Service:
- Learning progress, quiz answers and conversations are kept until you delete
them or ask us to. For quizzes, only the latest attempt at each concept is ever kept.
- Account information (if you signed in) is kept until you ask us to delete
the account.
- Server logs are kept only as long as needed to operate and secure the
Service.
Conversations and their attachments can be deleted from within the app. You can also ask us to
delete a child's information, or a whole account, by emailing
support@ferbotz.com; we complete verified requests within
30 days, unless the law requires us to keep something. Deleted data
may remain in backup copies for up to a further 90 days. Our
Account Deletion page lists exactly what is deleted and what is
kept.
8. Security
Connections to our servers are encrypted (HTTPS), and access to stored information is limited
to the people and systems that need it to run the Service. No method of transmission or storage is
completely secure, but we work to keep your child's data protected.
9. Your choices and parental rights
- Use anonymously. The app works without signing in.
- Attachments are optional. Photos and voice recordings are only sent if the
child chooses to add one.
- Delete content. Conversations can be deleted in the app: in History, press
and hold a conversation, tap Delete and confirm.
- Access or delete a child's data. Parents and guardians can email us to
review, correct or delete their child's information, or to delete an account - see our
Account Deletion page.
- Manage subscriptions. Through your app-store account settings.
10. Advertising
Curiously does not display third-party advertisements and does
not use children's information for behavioural or targeted advertising.
11. International data transfers
Our servers are hosted in India. Some of our providers - including Google, which generates
answers, and RevenueCat - may process information in other countries. Where required, we take
steps to protect information transferred across borders.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will change the "Last updated" date
above and, for significant changes, provide a notice in the app where appropriate.
13. Contact us
For any privacy question or request - including reviewing or deleting your child's information
- contact Ferbotz at support@ferbotz.com.
